Wall Letters!

The nursery wall letters finally arrived!! We had them hand painted to match our bedding and it took 9 weeks to get to us. I think they look great and really fill up that big wall by her crib! Now we just have one more wall to decorate and we'll be officially finished with her room. She may be 6 months old - but by golly we'll get it done. :)

Yes - this post is about a vacuum!

I love my Roomba!!

We celebrated Christmas with my family a little late this year. We wanted to wait until Abby passed her 2 month mark (per our Pediatrician's instruction) before we traveled since we're in the middle of flu season and whooping cough season. So this past weekend was her first road trip to Ennis. She did so good...too good really. I felt like someone took our baby and replaced her with a good impostor. :)

Now the real reason for this post. My Roomba. I asked for this magical vacuum cleaner not expecting to get it...but my Grandparents surprised me. And I love it. I really do. Today Abby was a little fussy (i.e. needy) so I spent half the day carrying her around and the other half feeding/bathing/changing, etc. So there is really no time for me to clean our house.

Cue the Roomba.

This amazing little guy just takes off on his own with a push of a button and sweeps the house without a single complaint. All the little crumbs and cat hair and just dirty junk on the floors disappeared like magic. It was beautiful. I'm so proud of my little robot.

Two Months Old!

Today was Abby's 2-month doctor visit. She weighed in at 11lbs, 10oz and was 23.5 inches long! Her weight is just above average (75th percentile)...but her height is in the 90th percentile! She IS our little overachiever!

Today was also her first big set of vaccinations. She had to get a shot in each thigh and some liquid in her mouth. Needless to say - I don't think I've ever seen her face turn so red and lungs work that good since the day she was born! She even got a few tears in her eyes. I felt horrible for her...and Matt just laughed!!! But we are home now and she is napping. I hope she will be able to sleep through the next couple of days and not get to feeling to bad or get to much of a fever. She's going to get lots of cuddle time today!

This is how Abby feels about shots (you can even see her little band-aids):

This is the way I roll...

Abby finally figured out how to flip herself to her back during tummy time today!! The first time she did it she was quite shocked and just stared at me as if to say "What just happened?". Then she started smiling really big! I'm sure my cheering let her know she did something good. :)

So I tried a few more times to get her to do it and was able to get it on video! She actually rolled the other way this time - so she's got both ways almost figured out now.

Next thing we know, she'll be driving. They grow up so fast. ;)

Mommy the Brave

We have these great movie theaters here in Austin called Alamo Drafthouse. Every Tuesday at the location close to our house they do "Baby Day"...which is the first showing of each movie that day. All infants are welcome.

I don't know what got into me today - but I decided that Abby and I needed to go see a movie. We've never taken her anywhere like that and especially not for that long! But off we went.

The movie was 120 minutes long. Of which I bounced her in my arms at the back of the theater (face towards the screen of course) for approximately 100 minutes. My arm still hurts.

But that's what I get for taking a fussy baby with me to see a movie. :) But I didn't care...it was BABY DAY! And we needed to get out of the house.

What I didn't understand was the amount of people watching the movie sans babies. I think those people were the brave ones. I started to feel a little bad for them when one of the babies in the audience would let out a wail (OK - that was mainly Abby) but then I thought...it's BABY DAY...why were they there?

Maybe we'll try again next week too!

Tummy Time

Each day we try to get in some good quality tummy time with Abby. The goal is to get her to lift her head up to build up her neck muscles (which she will use to hold her head up on her own) and also to strengthen her core so that she will be able to sit up.

While that definition sounds all well and dandy...tummy time with Abby usually consists of her getting really frustrated/mad, kicking her little legs as much as she can, squirming all around, bobbing her head up and down nose first into the blanket and trying to force her entire fist into her mouth.

She's already showing her attitude. :)

One small step for Abby, one giant leap for Mommy!

Today was a big day. Abby sleeps in the bassinet part of her Pack N' Play in our room at night. It works perfect since it's big and roomy and we like to have her so close to us. Funny enough - she doesn't make so much as a peep during the night. It's almost too quiet for me! And it's much easier to feed her in the middle of the night - and easier for me to check on her. Which I do often. :)

However, I've been wanting to get her to take daytime naps in her crib so that when we do make the transition for her to sleep in her own room, I want it to be easy and familiar to her. But the problem is...she doesn't nap. Ever. Or if she does it's always in her swing.

But today is a different day. I don't know if it's because she's getting older or if I just got lucky...but not only is she currently napping, she is doing so in her CRIB! She started yawning and rubbing her eyes so I jumped on those "sleepy signs" and immediately swaddled her and laid her in the crib. I sat out of her sight for a solid 19 minutes (yes, I was watching the clock!) while she fought sleep. She wasn't fussing, crying or upset - she just wasn't going to let herself sleep. But then it happened...she gave in.

Funny how these little things are so BIG now!

All Smiles

Abby has started to give us big huge smiles in the last few weeks (especially in the mornings when she wakes up!). I've tried to catch them on camera/video several times and can't ever get them. She gets so fascinated by the camera that she can't concentrate on anything else!

I did get a couple little ones here when she was smiling at her Daddy:

And I was able to get this little video of her and Daddy playing a little game. She does this funny little thing when she gets so excited where she opens her mouth big and wide. It's really cute. I'm hoping to get a video of us doing the "YMCA"...she loves it!

8 Weeks Old!

Can you believe it's been 8 weeks already?

(Excuse the bad hair day!)

One more Christmas picture!

I was going back through all my photos from Christmas trying to get them organized and I saw this one again. I think it's a really good one of Abby and Matt so I thought I'd post it!

Abby found her mobile!

Abby has been focusing in on her mobiles over the last week or so and has really started to like watching them! It's so neat to see her developing each day. I love how her eyes watch each flower that passes...then she finds the next one and watches it. She is usually smiling at it too! I grabbed my camera today and got a quick video of it. The color is off for some reason - but it's still a cute video. She makes me remember to enjoy the simple things in life.

The Goodwins!

My friend Lindsey, her husband Neils and their handsome little 4.5 month old boy, Calan, came to visit us on Saturday! They live in San Francisco, so it's rare that we get to see them!! This was the first introduction of Abby and Calan - you never know what the future holds for these two. :) Are they not precious together?

I wish we lived closer - it's so nice to have such good friends going through the exact same stages in life. They just "get it".

We will be heading to San Francisco in June for Lindsey's sister's wedding - and I already can't wait!

Story time with Daddy

We've started a new bedtime routine with Abby to hopefully teach her to wind down and go to sleep at a decent hour...some nights it works, others not so much. :) But part of the routine includes story time.

I snapped a picture of Abby and Daddy's first bedtime story together. So sweet.
