The Original and First Baby...

Shelby is convinced that the nursery room must be her room since we've been calling it "The baby's room" and she is, essentially, the "baby" of our family. She spends lots of time in this room - sleeping on the floor, under the crib, under the bassinet...and this weekend - looking out the window.

Here she is, our Original and First Baby.....

And here is one more picture just because I can't resist. She's lounging with her favorite person in the whole world.

A work in progress...

Matt decided this weekend to start working on the nursery full force. All in one Saturday he was able to accomplish so much! I started snapping pictures so that everyone could watch it come together. So far we think it's looking really cute!

PICTURE #1:
The room all taped up and the crib covered up. The plan is to paint the bottom half green, and the top half neutral. We are then going to add a chair rail (white wood trim) where you see the tape in the middle of the walls. This will separate the green from the neutral paint.

PICTURE #2 & 3:
The top part already painted, Matt is starting in on the green color at the bottom. He loves it when I take his picture. Can't you tell?

PICTURE #4: Almost done!

PICTURE #5: The proud painter (standing beside our newest furniture addition).

The only thing left to do now is put up the chair rail to separate the colors on the wall, get our glider/ottoman in there, hang up a few decorations and we'll be DONE! I can't wait to see the finished room!

In anticipation of beginning my 3rd trimester next week…

Things in this pregnancy at which I have not done so well with:

  • Drinking enough water
  • Eating a variety of foods (the usuals are just so easy after a long day of work)
  • Sleeping (maybe I'll get some sleep in a few years from now...)
  • Talking to the baby
  • Maintaining the “cute pregnant” look (consistently mani/pedi’ed, coiffed, and sufficiently made-up...it's overrated)
  • Coming up with potential names for the baby
  • Being OK with people rubbing on my belly

Things in this pregnancy at which I have succeeded:

  • Getting enough calcium. I could drink 2 gallons of milk by myself, every week.
  • Not gaining more than 25 lbs. (at least I'm on target to only gain that much....)
  • Walking/exercising most days of the week
  • Remaining relatively calm and stress free
  • Never asking Matt to leave the house at 2am for pickles or any other random food
  • Reading just about everything I can related to pregnancy, labor and birth
  • Eating
  • Thinking about eating
  • Pretty much anything related to eating
  • Not missing wine *too* much
  • Building a solid home foundation
  • Remembering to savor each day, because I’ll only be pregnant with my first child once
  • Remembering that I am the only person, right now, in the whole world that gets to feel every single kick, bump, thud & hiccup this baby makes

Pretty gifts

One of the travel agents that works at Apple stopped by my desk last week to find out if I was expecting a girl or boy. She was thrilled to learn it was a girl - and today she brought me not one but TWO crocheted baby blankets! I don't even know her very well - but she is very nice. One is a peach color (mix of pinkish/yellowish yarn) and the other is pink and white. They are really pretty!

Calan Kenneth Goodwin - he's here!

Today was a very exciting day - one of my dear friends who lives in San Francisco (Lindsey) just delivered her precious baby boy today. He's very handsome! Welcome to the world Baby Calan!!

No - we don't have a name yet!

For all those asking and wondering and thinking....

Unfortunately - we don't have a name yet. We've tossed around a few ideas, but just aren't sure if we've hit "the one". At least we have a little more time. :)

Mommy can build stuff too...

Matt's parents came down this weekend and we got so much done around the house. The front yard & landscaping got cleaned up/cut/trimmed/edged, grass mowed, out of place trees and stumps cut down and removed, pictures hung, furniture moved and the list goes on. We have a lot more work to do - but it's coming together.

So while everyone else did all the work - I decided to get ambitious and put together the dresser we bought for the baby. I think I did a really good job if I say so myself. :)

The finished dresser....

Thank you Vic & Elaine for all your help this weekend!!!

Daddy Duty

Our crib arrived today - about a week earlier than we thought! We of course immediately started to put it together. Here are a few pictures of our first big baby related purchase, and Matt's first big job as a new Dad. :)

The nursery isn't painted yet - so everything is pretty bare in there still. More to come on that.

Wow - there are a lot of pieces in here!

Slowly but surely coming together.

Drum roll....the finished product.

We figured out the hard way that the finished crib wasn't going to fit through the bedroom door. Awesome. So we had to take it apart and re-put it back together inside the room. It made for a fun night to say the least.

You know your pregnant when...

You spend 9 hours at work - going to meetings, checking email, answering phones and even running a couple errands at lunch time only to come home in the evening and realize you have two completely different shoes on.

It's a.....

GIRL!!!

The Gypsy was WRONG (well - according to the best opinion from our Sonogram Tech!) and we are indeed going to be parents of a sweet little girl.

We thought for sure it would be a boy - so we both got a surprise, but we are so excited about our healthy little girl.

As you can see - the blog colors have been updated with the recent news. ;)

Here are a couple of updated pictures of Matt and I from this weekend also. We were heading to a wedding. I promise Matt usually takes better pictures...:)
